The beautiful South Downs market town of Petersfield was included in the new National Park because its strong character is reflective of its surrounding landscape. The use of local stone, such as Malmstone and flint, was often historically the cheaper option, but it has given rise to some fantastic buildings that define the town’s very character.
On 21st March 2010 at 10.30am, David Jeffery of the Petersfield Society and Jonathan Bills of the South Downs Joint Committee, will take you around Petersfield looking at the local building stone and how it has shaped our town and its history.
Meeting at the junction of Sussex Road and Sussex Gardens, we shall then walk through the town for about a couple of hours
Booking your place is essential - please ring Jonathan Bills on 07894 622344. You can download a copy of the promotional leaflet from this website.
