Annual General Meeting

Wednesday 19th May 2010 7.30 pm
Annual General Meeting
Following the formal business of the Annual General Meeting chaired by our President Christopher Napier, we shall be welcoming Tony Burton, Director of the UK’s Civic Society Initiative as a guest speaker.

This is an interesting time for civic societies in the UK, as a new national umbrella body - Civic Voice - is launched. Come and hear its Director share his views on civic societies and their vital contribution to this country. Tony Burton has over 20 years of experience in the field of community action, land use planning and environmental and heritage politics. He is moving from his role as the National Trust’s Director of Strategy and External Affairs to take up leadership of the Civic Society Initiative. Prior to the National Trust Tony spent 13 years at CPRE. He left as Deputy Director in 2001. Tony was also a founder trustee of Heritage Link – the voluntary sector networking organisation for heritage groups - and chaired its environmental equivalent Wildlife and Countryside Link. He was a member of Lord Rogers Urban Task Force and has been an advisor to ministers on issues as diverse as urban renaissance and hedgerow protection.

Tony is a geographer, town planner and an honorary member of the Royal Institute of British Architects. He is 45 and lives in SW London. In his spare time he enjoys the countryside and open spaces as an elite orienteer.

Admission to meetings is free to members. Other visitors are invited to make a donation toward the Society’s work.
