What is The Petersfield Society?

The Petersfield Society is your local Civic Trust Society and independent environmental watchdog, dedicated to enhancing the quality of life in Petersfield and the surrounding area. The Society enthusiastically encourages and rewards examples of good design and planning, whilst being prepared to oppose that which fails to enrich the area.

The primary aims of the Society are to:

  • safeguard and improve the environmental quality of life in Petersfield and the surrounding countryside
  • encourage the protection of buildings of architectural or historical interest
  • provide a voice for the community on local development and environmental issues
  • influence future planning and design for the town and the surrounding area
  • actively participate in the development of local and district policies relating to building, traffic and the countryside
  • fund local enhancement projects, for example the annual daffodil display along Tor Way on the Petersfield one way system

The Petersfield Society is an independent registered charity, run by volunteers. It is affiliated to the Campaign for the Protection of Rural England (CPRE) Hampshire branch and registered with The Civic Trust.

The Society is a member of a wide range of influential specialised bodies including:
The Society for the Protection of Ancient Buildings (S.P.A.B)
The Hampshire Buildings Preservation Trust and The Commons, Open Spaces and Footpaths Preservation Society
