Rosemary Clark
Treasurer

Rosemary Clark and her husband have lived in Petersfield for many years and have brought up their two sons there. She is involved with many activities in the town including Petersfield Physic Garden and Petersfield Heritage. She has been a committee member of the Petersfield Society for over 20 years and currently works in the town as a pharmacist.

Kit Hitchcock
Committee member

Kit Hitchcock retired to Petersfield with his wife Shirley in 2000. Previously he was a research scientist, publishing some sixty papers and one book on the biochemistry and analysis of food. They have three children and seven grandchildren.

David Scurfield
Newsletter Editor

David Scurfield is a bald glass engraver of pensionable age who assembles the newsletter from the sheaves of articles he is constantly under bombardment from (ie: he would welcome more!). He moved to Petersfield at the tender age of 1 . He worked for various publishers typographically before setting up as a printer himself.

Barbara Hamilton
Membership Secretary

I moved to Petersfield from London with my husband and two sons in 1979 and we've lived in the same house ever since. I trained as a caterer and worked as secretary, first at the RIBA in London and then locally for Bedales' fundraising and also for the Council of International Schools in Petersfield. I then retired to work as an adviser at the CAB and also to get a belated history degree. In 1999 I joined the newly opened Petersfield Museum as secretary for five years and am now on the museum's Board of Directors.


Tony Struthers
Committee member

I am now retired having previously been the Director of Development Services and Deputy Chief Executive, City of Salford between 1984 and 2000. I was responsible for planning, highways, transportation, architecture, estates and landscape services and undertook major regeneration projects in the City. This included the redevelopment of Manchester Docks into Salford Quays; the development of the Lowry Centre and a range of housing, economic and environmental projects. My previous posts included - Deputy County Planner, West Midlands County Council; Assistant County Planning Officer, Merseyside County Council and Assistant County Planning Officer and Research Officer, Hampshire County Council. I was President, Royal Town Planning Institute 1997-8 and awarded the O.B.E. for services to regeneration of Salford in 1999. Since retirement, I have been Chairman,Petersfield Society 2003 - 7; Chairman, Community First East Hampshire 2006- and Home-Start Butser 2006- ; Governor, Alton College since 2003 and am currently a member of the East Hampshire Local Strategic Partnership.


Christopher Napier
President

Christopher Napier spent 14 years in the Royal Navy. Service mainly in submarines. In 1976 took voluntary retirement from the RN to take up law. Joined Clifford-Turner (now Clifford Chance) and qualified as a Solicitor 1979. Partner of Clifford Chance 1983 – 1999. Practised commercial litigation with specialisation in environmental, health & safety and industrial matters. Became an Accredited Mediator for civil and commercial disputes in 2000 and is now a practising mediator with Solent Mediation Group. Vice Chairman of national CPRE, Chairman of CPRE Hampshire, Chairman of South Down Advisory Forum, Board Member of Radian Group Ltd (social registered landlord), Chairman of Durford Wood Landowners Limited.


David Jeffery
Chairman

David Jeffery left London for Hampshire in 1983, when he was appointed to Bedales School as Head of Modern Languages. Moved to West Sussex (1986-1997), then returned to Petersfield and became involved in many local societies: he has served on the committees of Petersfield Museum, Petersfield Twinning Association and Woodbury Avenue Residents’ Association (the last two as Chairman). He has also been an active member of the Operatic Society, the Choral Society and the Historical Society. Since joining The Petersfield Society in 2003, he has been the Lectures organiser, helped with Petersfield Tomorrow and served on the committee of Petersfield Heritage (responsible for the town’s blue plaques). He has published Petersfield at War (2004), Postwar Petersfield (2006) and The History of Petersfield and Sheet Scouts and Guides (2007), and co-produced four video films on local themes, all on sale at the Museum.

John Milman
Committee member

John Milman lives in Liss where he is a parish councillor and on the Village Design Group. He has lived in the Petersfield area for the most of the last 45 years and has witnessed considerable changes to both the built and rural areas. He is currently involved in a conservation area in Surrey & in other planning issues. He is particularly interested in the issue of the ‘cloning’ of towns & villages with its corresponding social and economic impacts. Now semi-retired, much of his business life was in specialist telecommunications which took him around the world.
